The Kanban System Design® (KSD) course gives you the knowledge and tools to design and improve your workflow systems, increase productivity and predictability, and gain the foundations to be an effective Kanban professional.
Learn effective ways to improve your product or service delivery by:
- Designing a predictable system of work.
- Identifying and addressing dependencies, causes of delays, and bottlenecks.
- Systematically growing capacity.
- Managing shifting priorities.
- Increasing collaboration.
- Prioritizing work.
Participants that successfully complete this course (previously known as Kanban Management Professional Part 1) will receive a certificate of completion for Kanban System Design® (KSD). By completing both this course and the Kanban Systems Improvement® (KSI) course, participants will earn the coveted Kanban Management Professional® (KMP) designation with Kanban University®.
Note: This course is available to be completed in four half days or two full days.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is for those who take responsibility for improving delivery of products and services to customers of their professional service business. It is strongly recommended for Team Leads and Managers who are responsible for creating a high performance work environment, Managers who want to transform their delivery systems, Scrum Masters and Project Managers who need to know how to improve the systems their Agile and Scrum teams work within.
If you have been using Agile techniques or Scrum for years, this course is a valuable supplement that addresses many common challenges you are likely experiencing.
If you are considering or currently using Kanban, this is a great opportunity to learn about the core practices of Kanban, how Kanban can help your team work better together, and how to increase predictability for your team and organization by designing and managing a system of effective work management.
By successfully completing the Kanban System Design® (KSD) course, you will be able to:

We will also cover the core learning objectives from Kanban University®, which include:
- Understand the basics, motivation, and benefits of The Kanban Method.
- Experience flow in a simulation of a Kanban system.
- Learn how to run team-based Kanban meetings that focus on the work, and allow the team to organize around it.
- Build and design a Kanban system using the STATIK approach.
- Become faster and more responsive, with better risk management and governance.
- Understand “Pull” systems and how they help reduce overburdening.
- Learn how to utilize key metrics such as Lead Time, Run Charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams to make continuous improvements.
Attendees are expected to have read either of the following books prior to attending:
- “Kanban: Successful Evolutionary Change For Your Technology Business” by David J Anderson
- “Kanban From the Inside” by Mike Burrows.

No prerequisite formal training or certifcation required, however prior experience leading, managing, or working on an Agile team would be beneficial. Successful completion of the Team Kanban Practitioner® (TKP) class would also be beneficial.
